At the end of last month,Henan province has been hit by unusually heavy rain,causing severe flooding areas.There are four main characteristics of rain in Henan: first, the total amount of rain is large and the extreme value of rain intensity is high.  From May 17 to 22, 39 cities and counties in Henan province received more than half of their annual rainfall.  Ten cities and counties have more than their annual rainfall.  The daily rainfall of 19 cities and counties, including Zhengzhou, Hebi, Anyang and Xinxiang, broke through the historical extreme value. Among them, the 24-hour rainfall of Jiangang meteorological station in Erqi District of Zhengzhou reached 696.9 millimeters, 640 millimeters more than the annual average precipitation of Zhengzhou. Two is the torrential force of the flood, the project is out of danger.  Affected by the heavy rainfall, 12 rivers experienced excessive flooding, five of which exceeded the guaranteed water level and six exceeded the historical water level.  Zhongmu Hydrological station of Jialu River in Huaihe River basin exceeded the historical water level by 1.43 meters on April 21, and both the water level and discharge were the first since data records began in 1960.  In Changzhuang, Guojiazui and Wuxing three reservoirs, piping, overflow and cracks occurred respectively.  A breach occurred in Quay Village, Xinzhen, Xunxian County.  Weihe Xinxiang Muye Avenue occurred a breach danger.  Xihua County, Zhoukou City, jialu river on the right bank of carp beach village occurred in the danger of pipe.  A total of seven flood storage and detention areas were opened in Henan province.  Third, the scope of influence is wide and social attention is high.  Severe waterlogging has occurred in many cities in Henan Province. In Zhengzhou, all subway lines have been suspended, power and water have been cut off in large areas, and the communication signal is poor, which has seriously affected the production and life of citizens.  Some sections of the Zhengxi, Zhengtai, Zhengxu and Ordinary Longhai line, Jiaoliu line, Ningxi line and Beijing-Guangzhou line were closed or speed-limited, affecting 186 passenger trains and disrupting traffic on national Highways 209 and 310.  Changzhuang and Guojiazui reservoirs are in danger. Zhengzhou city and the middle route of south-to-north Water Transfer project are safe.  Public opinion is highly concerned about the flood disaster in Zhengzhou, Henan province.  Fourth, the loss of heavy disaster, heavy casualties.  Since July 16, floods in Henan province have affected 13.66643 million people in 150 counties and cities including Zhengzhou and Xinxiang, with 73 people killed.  A total of 1.4708 million people were relocated.  55,000 houses collapsed and 1021.4 million hectares of crops were damaged, of which 179.8 million hectares were lost. The statistics of direct economic losses are being further investigated.  Wang Zhihua, spokesman of the China Meteorological Administration and director of the emergency disaster reduction and public service department, said the extreme heavy rain in Henan province lasted for six days, with the strongest period occurring between July 19 and 21.  The cumulative rainfall in most parts of central and northern Henan province is more than 500 mm. The top three average rainfall in each city are hebi 588.1 mm, Zhengzhou 532.5 mm and Xinxiang 467.4 mm.
